Frequently Asked Questions

Is what we talk about confidential? All personal information and what we discuss in therapy are completely confidential. We may not release any of it to a third party without your written permission, except where disclosure is required by law.

How do I get more information or to make an appointment?
You may call us at (336) 722-8173 and ask to talk with our Intake Specialist for any questions you may have. The Intake Specialist will be happy to schedule an appointment also. If you are interested in making an appointment in the Mocksville office, you may call there directly at (336) 751-4510 on Tuesday and Wednesday. We serve people who live or work in Forsyth, Davie, and Stokes County.

Can I use my medical insurance? Most health insurance will cover services only when they consider our services as a medical necessity. We will file claims for your insurance including Medicaid. We offer sliding-scale fees based on your household income and the family size.

Are there any differences in seeing a male or female therapist? Some people prefer a male and some prefer a female therapist. In our experience, therapist you find compatible to work with you is more important than gender.

How do I know a therapist is qualified? If you don't have a recommendation of a trusted family member or a friend, you may look for a therapist with certain credentials. They may be State Board Licenses, such as, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) or LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). All of our therapists are licensed clinicians in North Carolina and have completed accredited graduate school programs.

What should I expect when I first come? You should arrive 10 - 15 minutes before your appointment time. Please bring with you the family income documents, e.g., paycheck stubs, and health insurance cards. You will be asked to read and fill out some paperwork and an agreement which describes some of the terms of our service. Each counseling session is about 45 - 50 minutes, but the first one may be a little longer. Once you are in the therapist office, he/she will guide you how the session will proceed. Your therapist will be interested in learning your situations and ask some questions to understand them accurately. You are free to ask the therapist any question you may have. Then, you and the therapist will begin to develop goals for the therapy together.

What is Family Therapy? In family therapy the therapist will focus on the relationships of family members instead of just on one individual to help solve conflicts or concerns. He/she may see any combinations of or all family members together depending on the types of problems and the most effective ways of reaching resolutions.

Is group therapy better than individual therapy? Group therapy has been shown to be as effective and sometimes more effective than individual therapy. If you think about it, we all grew up in group environments and we affect and are being affected by others. It provides a safe place where you come together with others to share problems or concerns and, under a trained facilitator, better understand your situation and learn with and from each other by helping each other.
